Live from GMC HQ in Las Vegas Nevada!
We're in the final week before The Grrls Meat Camp Rendezvous & Round-up in Calvert, Texas. What to pack for a 5 days of workshops on a 3000 acre working ranch, business meetings with our new board of directors, meeting new and old friends, and eating some great local food from Texas Beef to BBQ, tacos to local brews?
Easy as 1,2, & 3,
1. Bring all the energy you can muster. Our days are jammed packed with hands-on workshops featuring 5 species of animals: Beef, pork, lamb, poultry and game.
2. Warm outdoor wear and shoes or boots for exploring the Bar W Ranch on foot and on a hayride.
3. Edible Show & Tell! Each Rendezvous has been a wonderful way to showcase your home goods. Bring your favorite jams, pickles, patés, charcuterie, t-bones, etc. We'll have a Texas style smorgasbord on Saturday lunch.
The carpool list is being finalised. If you have registered for the Rendezvous and or Roundup you will receive an email with the list of attendees. We will be a jolly 30 Cow Grrls!
What's in our toolbox these days? Aside from the usual sharp objects and assortment of pullers and whackers, we added a few very important new tools to the GMC Tool Box in the last year- Organization, Sponsorships, Membership. We'll be sharing them with you in 2017 as these new tools are making our work easier, more profitable, and enriching our lives with small victories to share with family and friends.
Organization: After a formative business coaching session from Meat Grrl Dr. P. (Michele Pfannenstiel of Dirigo Food Safety) before the last Rendezvous in Michigan, a direction was set to solicit board members and form a corporation, Then with the patient help of our new Treasure and Treasurer, Maurine Fischel, the first new tool of 2016 was the actual incorporation of Grrls Meat Camp, Inc! Bank accounts, tax numbers, and a host of other forms to sign, fax, and return followed and a short 12 months later, we are a legit, tax-paying, business entity with a viable product and good potential growth market. We are, in effect, ready to rock and roll. We want to share the process as well as the profits with you all so as we add new organziation tools to our Toolbox, we'll write about it here.
Sponsors: As much as Grrls Meat Camp was born of a need to talk to each other and give our individual and collective voice to the industry, we are also interested in the sustainability of this organization. This means our decision to create a profit making business that can grow, return, and pass on not only knowledge but future business opportunities. The next improtant tool we sought was solid partnerships that will benefit our Grrls and their lives, business and families. Sponsors and partners in business are part of our GMC Tool Box- we ask for goods, services, and investments so that our membership can grow and benefit from these alliances. With the dedication of a Catherine Manterola, PR and Marketing Grrl, we formed a strong alliance with the Dawn and Judy of Bunzl-Koch Processor Equipment and The Texas Beef Council. In addition we are also funded by you, grrls who believe in our sisterhood and want to help. All those coming for the Rendezvous in Texas later this month will benefit directly from these sponsorships and understand just how important our partnerships can be to all parties. You can suggest adn check out new sponsors here!
